A collaboration between the Dresden Dolls’ Amanda Palmer and experimental musician Jason Webley, Evelyn Evelyn revolves around the concept of conjoined twin sisters Eva and Lyn Neville, who play cabaret-inspired music with fittingly close harmonies.
Palmer and Webley formed the project in 2007, saying they “discovered” the Neville sisters via MySpace messages from the pair, who were born Parapagus Tripus Dibrachius twins and shared three legs, two arms, two hearts, three lungs and a liver. They appeared in a traveling circus from age 11 to 19, but Webley and Palmer rescued them and helped them record an album. The EP Elephant Elephant appeared in 2007 and was a limited edition of 1,111 copies released via Webley’s 11 Records imprint. Tegan and Sara and Frances Bean Cobain were among the artists who also appeared on Evelyn Evelyn’s self-titled debut, which arrived in 2010; a graphic novel illustrated by Cynthia von Buhler and published by Dark Horse Press was also planned for that year. ~ Heather Phares
